The first is a Few Flowered Shooting Star.
We saw these flowers on a bike ride one morning. The bike trail starts in Valdez and must go for 15 miles along the road heading north out of town. We took a couple side paths, the first around the back of town to the hospital. It went though a low area that had these Blue Flags.
Farther along, the road passed between some wetlands and the bay; tidewater came and went, with grassy edges, lots of gulls, and one snipe that sang from the top of a telephone pole. Between the welands and the trail, on the bank, these lilies grew.
We also found some River Beauties.
One of the side bike trails leads to the airport and back toward the Valdez Glacier. In one of the pictures in the museum from the 40's, it appeared that the glacier came right up to the back of the town. Today, it's at least three or four miles from the bay where the town was before relocating after the earthquake. The glacier is melting away.
