I did get a wildflower book!

Bruce bought me Wildflowers along the Alaska Highway the other day.  Great surprise.
We saw this one while hiking above Skagway.   It's a Bogbean. I love the fringed edges of the petals.  Wish it would grow in Ohio, but then, I don't have a bog, and our winters aren't quite cold enough.

It's a fabulous year for the Arctic Lupine.  They grow in clumps, and when there is a whole array, the roadside seems to reflect the blue of sky, but it's these beautiful ones.  They only grow about 8-10 inches tall.

And then there is the very generic flower, with a surplus of names:  Cloudberry,  Salmonberry, and Baked Appleberry.  I hope to be around when these get ripe. There seems to be some confusion on their taste.  We found them high on the tundra.
This was the Cloudberry setting.

I am constantly amazed and thankful for the variety of God's creation.

  1. Thanks so much for all the photos & updates on your travels. As I recall, salmonberries ripen around mid-July and to me taste & look like raspberries except they are orange when ripe.
