The short 15 mile ferry trip from Skagway to Haines saved 250-300 miles of driving, and it only took an hour. We like Haines - a small, quiet town with no cruise ships most days. Found a wonderful campground at Chilkoot Lake. The lake and river are known for fishing and Bald Eagles. The 3,500 eagles that gather in the winter must be something to see, but there are 30-50 here now.
