Springtime in Alaska

Driving down the highway yesterday and today with a myriad of blooming wildflowers along the road brought to mind various Alaska promotional pictures, and now I know why so many have flowers in them.  The sides of the roads have wide margins with no trees.  The flowers like the sunshine.

Many of the plants, bushes, and trees are still leafing out, especially at higher altitudes.

We stopped at a couple high meadows, coming over the pass into Valdez.  These alpine flowers were all less than two inches tall.

And for the first time on this trip, I saw wild geranium.  It was at low alttude, less than 1000 feet, in the Horsetail falls parking area.

It was beside this mystery plant,
and I can't remember at what altitude, the following red one was found.
