Mears Glacier - 9 hour boat trip from Valdez

Took a memorable boat trip today - got as close as you can get to Columbia Glacier (above) - the fastest melting glacier (lost one mile just last summer - there is ice for 16+ miles out from the glacier) - and then went on to Mears Glacier. We got within 1300 feet or so and watched for an hour as ice crashed down at times (calving). Also saw otters, seals, sea-lions and both Tufted and Horned Puffins, some cool porpoises that led the boat for a mile, and humpbacked whales. All of this in Prince William Sound, location of the Exxon Valdez disaster, which is still being cleaned up in places.
