Three glacier day


Nelchina Glacier

Matanuska Glacier at 11 pm
Saturday, July 16 - started out at a free campsite along a gravel road close to the Gulkana Glacier on the Richardson Road. Later we saw it even better from the Denali Highway, Mile 5. Driving on we headed for Palmer on the Glenn Highway, seeing two fantastic glaciers along the way. First was the Nelchina Glacier. It had been mostly-cloudy all day with rain on-and-off all day and no views of the high peaks. As we approached the Matanuska Glacier at 10:30 pm, the sun shone briefly on the snowy peaks above the glacier - one of the best views of the trip.

    These mountain/glacier/cloud photographs are beautiful. They really give a feel of remote wilderness land and sky...I really like them.
